It is the parent company of Rolls-Royce car brands. The company at first made aircraft until the end of World War I. It started manufacturing motorcycles in 1923 and automobiles in 1928. In 2006, the company produced 1,366,838 vehicles in its factories in five countries. It has manufacturing facilities in the USA, the UK, Austria, and South Africa, apart from Germany. BMW has won 19 grand prix as an engine supplier. Its first race win as a constructor was on June 8, 2008 at the Grand Prix of Canada. The company has a successful history in touring car racing.

I got this book because I like to follow the automotive industry, rather than because I am a BMW fan. Reading "Driven" was both enjoyable and frustrating...the story is told reasonably well, although it drags a bit in its description of BMW stylists in Chapter 5, for example. But the missing link to me was the lack of followup in some topics. -

This is a great book with many stunning photographs. There are lots of rare and old BMWs featured, and each one is represented with multiple photographs, including large photos spanning two pages. A really great book for the price. Informative text in three languages.
